As #AAPIHeritageMonth comes to a close, our storie As #AAPIHeritageMonth comes to a close, our stories don’t end here. Being Asian American isn’t limited to May—and neither are the struggles with identity, belonging, and visibility.

It’s so important to recognize that the Asian American experience is not one-size-fits-all. Our stories span generations, regions, and realities—from Chinatowns to the Deep South, including places like Mississippi that are often left out of the narrative.

By learning about these varied histories, we can better understand the roots of our identity and continue to challenge anti-Asian attitudes, the perpetual foreigner stereotype, and the model minority myth. Our history is American history—every month of the year. 💪🏽✨
Want to dive deeper into these stories? Watch Far East Deep South, now streaming on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Kanopy, and Tubi.

Born in segregated Mississippi, Virginia carved out a career in acting and music when few opportunities existed for Asian American women—especially those from the Deep South. At 87, she’s still challenging stereotypes, telling her story, and reminding us all that age is never a barrier to impact.

Hear directly from Virginia and our director @larissalammusic as they talk about race, identity, representation, and why sharing authentic Asian American narratives is more urgent than ever.

This Memorial Day, we honor the Mississippi Chines This Memorial Day, we honor the Mississippi Chinese Americans who served — and sacrificed — for our country. 🇺🇸
While many know about the Chinese grocery stores that once dotted the Mississippi Delta, fewer know that a large percentage of Mississippi Chinese also served in the U.S. military, especially during World War II.

The Mississippi Delta Chinese Heritage Museum preserves not just the legacy of these families, but also the stories of service and sacrifice — honoring the men who fought bravely despite the discrimination they faced at home.

🪦 Did you know Chinese Americans were once buri 🪦 Did you know Chinese Americans were once buried in segregated cemeteries?
During the Jim Crow era, racism didn’t stop with the living—it followed people into death.

In places like Mississippi and even California, Chinese immigrants were barred from being buried in white and Black cemeteries. Families had to create separate burial grounds just to honor their loved ones.

This painful history is often left out of textbooks, but it’s a vital part of the American story.

📽️ Watch this clip to uncover a buried truth about segregation in America and learn more history by watching our feature doc FAR EAST DEEP SOUTH.

Did you know that the reason many of us are U.S. c Did you know that the reason many of us are U.S. citizens today is because of one man—Wong Kim Ark?
Learn about it in this 🎬 Deleted Scene from #FarEastDeepSouth

In 1898, Wong Kim Ark, born in San Francisco to Chinese immigrant parents, fought all the way to the #SupremeCourt to affirm a basic right: that if you're born in the U.S., you're a citizen—no matter your race or your parents’ nationality.
His landmark case secured birthright citizenship for generations of Americans, including our own family.

🇺🇸 His story is often erased—but we’re keeping it alive.

🎉 Big news! 🎉 Our filmmaking team of @lariss 🎉 Big news! 🎉
Our filmmaking team of @larissalammusic @onlywonmc next project, "Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wing?" has been awarded a 2025 Mississippi Humanities Council documentary grant! We’re honored to receive this support — but here’s the catch: it requires matching funds.

That means we need YOUR help to unlock the full grant and bring Virginia Wing’s incredible story to life on screen. This film celebrates the life of this resilient 87-year-old Chinese American actress and former Mississippi beauty queen who defied stereotypes. We're expanding the MCU - Mississippi Cinematic Universe with her journey from Marks, MS during Jim Crow to Hollywood to the New York stage. There is a need now, more than ever, to tell stories from the AAPI community. Her story challenges stereotypes and shines a light on the untold history and challenges for Asian American women in film, TV and theater🧡🎥

✅ Every dollar you give brings us closer to finishing the film.
✅ Please share with friends to help us reach new supporters.
✅ And right now, your gift will go twice as far thanks to a $10,000 matching campaign!

#FBF Remembering Harold Lum of Pace, MS, who was b #FBF Remembering Harold Lum of Pace, MS, who was born in 1932 and sadly passed away in May 2023. This photo—featuring (L–R) neighbor Linda Hall, his wife Kit, @onlywonmc, his son Robert, and neighbor Lavern Woodruff—was taken just a few months before his passing.

Like many featured in our film, there was so much more to Harold’s story than we were able to include. As with many Chinese children in the Mississippi Delta, Harold worked long hours in the family store from as early as he could remember. After graduating from @uofmemphis (formerly Memphis State College), Harold returned home to keep the store open to the community.

When asked why he stayed, he joked in our film, “I don’t know why I’m still here.” He could have remained in Memphis or moved to another big city like his siblings and many other Mississippians did—but he chose to come back to the small town of Pace to live, which in recent years has had a population of only a few hundred. His was the only Chinese family left among a majority of African American neighbors. He said, "I enjoyed it here." Rest in peace, Harold. Your neighbors will always remember your smile.

You can hear more of Harold’s story and explore this little-known chapter of American history in our documentary Far East Deep South, now streaming on @Tubi, @Kanopy, and @PBS.
