Oxford Film Fest Goes Virtual June 5-12 with Far East Deep South

The Oxford Film Festival was originally to have taken place in Oxford, MS in March. Like all other events, is was postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19 shutdowns. Well, the festival will now be doing the Oxford Virtual Film Festival online all summer and Far East Deep South is in the lineup! This will be next time the general public has an opportunity to see Far East Deep South since theaters and festivals continue to be shuttered.

The film will be available to watch on demand only between June 5-12. The cost to watch the film is $10. The proceeds from the “ticket sales” will help offset lost costs to the festival and the filmmakers due to the COVID-19 shutdown. Once you buy a “ticket”, you can watch anytime during the week the film is available. Your “ticket” purchase will also give you access to join the live video Q&A on June 10th at 5pm PDT/8pm EDT (New date/time!) with director, Larissa Lam, producer, Baldwin Chiu and editor, Dwight Buhler.

The Oxford Film Festival is hoping to have a real in-person festival later in the year but until then, please support the film by going to Oxford.FarEastDeepSouth.com  for info on this screening and to purchase a “ticket”.

Oxford Film Festival Postponed

Due to ongoing concerns related to coronavirus, our Mar 20 & 22 screenings at Oxford Film Festival are postponed. Here’s the official statement from the festival:

The Oxford Film Festival Board of Directors and staff announced today that because of public health concerns regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19), the 2020 Oxford Film Festival, scheduled for March 18 – 22, has been postponed.

Sparky Reardon, chair of the Oxford Film Festival board stated, “We have concluded that the only responsible decision is to postpone the 2020 festival until later in the year. While we are heart-broken to have to make this decision, our first priority must be the health and safety of our community, our attendees, our supporters, and our filmmakers.

Tickets and passes will be honored at the rescheduled Festival.

“It is our intention to present the full slate of exceptional films, speakers and panels at a later date when the festival may be held under conditions deemed safe by governmental and health authorities,” stated Reardon.

No specific dates are currently announced for the rescheduled festival. The festival organizers will be in contact with all participants.”

Mar 14 Cinequest Screening Postponed

Our Mar 7 & 8 screenings at Cinequest are going on as scheduled but due to ongoing Coronavirus uncertainty, our Mar 14 screening in San Jose has been postponed until August. Tickets for Mar 14 will be honored for the August screenings TBD. Here’s part of the official statement from Cinequest co-founders, Kathleen J. Powell & Halfdan Hussey:

Here’s where we’re at: The NBA, NHL, and Cinequest will remain open this weekend (through March 8) to continue providing confidence and inspiring relief to the Bay Area. The Mayor made it clear to me yesterday that we had to make some changes. In consultation with him, Cinequest has decided to reschedule the second week of this year’s Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival to occur August 16-30, 2020. This will allow Cinequest to provide the joyful and celebratory 30th anniversary edition all deeply deserve.
