🕊️ Today marks 70 years since the brutal murd 🕊️ Today marks 70 years since the brutal murder of 14-year-old Emmett Till in Mississippi, whose death and its aftermath had a lasting impact.

Beyond galvanizing Civil Rights activism, his murder also instilled fear in communities of color in Mississippi who lived under Jim Crow laws. It was a chilling reminder of the rigid color lines meant to “keep people in their place,” and the violence that could erupt if those lines were crossed.

Emmett’s story is not just history. It is a call to remember, to educate, to fight racism, and to inspire us to treat one another with greater respect and kindness.

These granite blocks—nicknamed the “China Wall”—tell the story of thousands of Chinese railroad workers who braved brutal winters, dangerous blasting, and discrimination to build the transcontinental railroad in the 1860s. @onlywonmc takes us inside the Summit Tunnel they carved.

Today, the tunnel is full of graffiti, but preservation efforts aim to protect this landmark for future generations.

When we made Far East Deep South, it unexpectedly became a therapy session for my father-in-law, Charles Chiu. Like many immigrants, he never had the space or language to process the trauma of family separation, racism, and silence.

Our film helped open up conversations that had been locked away for generations. Sharing our stories can be a powerful step toward healing. 💬❤️

💙 This Father’s Day, we honor the memory of C 💙 This Father’s Day, we honor the memory of Charles Chiu — the heart of Far East Deep South. He may have locked horns with his sons but Charles’s unexpected journey to Mississippi to uncover his own father’s hidden past started a healing process.
Charles says memorably in the film:“Chinese young people, they listen to you, because they grow up like that. But in America, they don’t listen to you. They think the older folks—you don’t know anything. Actually, we older folks, we know everything.”
He may have initially typified the culture and generational clash between immigrant fathers and their children but his story as a father and son took an unexpected turn.

June is #ImmigrantHeritageMonth. A time to celebra June is #ImmigrantHeritageMonth. A time to celebrate the rich contributions of immigrants to our nation. 🇺🇸🌏 But we must also remember the painful chapters of our history. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 marked the first major federal law to restrict immigration based on race and nationality — targeting Chinese immigrants and setting the stage for future exclusionary policies. Prior to this, immigrants were mainly screened and rejected if they had a disease. The enforcement of the Chinese Exclusion Act gave rise to the bureaucracy and gatekeepers behind it that are present today.

As #AAPIHeritageMonth comes to a close, our storie As #AAPIHeritageMonth comes to a close, our stories don’t end here. Being Asian American isn’t limited to May—and neither are the struggles with identity, belonging, and visibility.

It’s so important to recognize that the Asian American experience is not one-size-fits-all. Our stories span generations, regions, and realities—from Chinatowns to the Deep South, including places like Mississippi that are often left out of the narrative.

By learning about these varied histories, we can better understand the roots of our identity and continue to challenge anti-Asian attitudes, the perpetual foreigner stereotype, and the model minority myth. Our history is American history—every month of the year. 💪🏽✨

Born in segregated Mississippi, Virginia carved out a career in acting and music when few opportunities existed for Asian American women—especially those from the Deep South. At 87, she’s still challenging stereotypes, telling her story, and reminding us all that age is never a barrier to impact.

Hear directly from Virginia and our director @larissalammusic as they talk about race, identity, representation, and why sharing authentic Asian American narratives is more urgent than ever.

While many know about the Chinese grocery stores that once dotted the Mississippi Delta, fewer know that a large percentage of Mississippi Chinese also served in the U.S. military, especially during World War II.

The Mississippi Delta Chinese Heritage Museum preserves not just the legacy of these families, but also the stories of service and sacrifice — honoring the men who fought bravely despite the discrimination they faced at home.
